Why is play so important?

Research tells us that children learn best during play or child-led activities.  They thrive in an environment that allows them to explore freely.  They learn many skills that they will need as adults during play.  The most important time in a child's life is birth to the age of 3.

Learning through play happens through joyful, actively engaging, meaningful, iterative, and socially interactive experiences.   Learning through play supports overall healthy development, acquisition of both content (e.g., math) and learning-to-learn skills (e.g., executive function).

Child-led activities look and feel different than teacher-led activities.  When a child leads an activity, they tend to be more engaged and have a vested interest in the activity or the outcome.  We spend the majority of our day in child-led activities.
